Born in 1956 to a Damascene father and an Aleppo mother. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Aleppo in 1980. In 1983 he moved to Britain to specialize, where in 1985 he obtained a certificate in chest diseases from the University of Wales. In 1987, he obtained a degree in cardiology from the Royal Postgraduate College, University of London. In 1996 he received a Fellowship from the American College of Chest Physicians After that, he moved to work in Saudi Arabia as head of the Internal Medicine Department at Kingdom Hospital and Consulting Clinics in Riyadh. In 2014, he was appointed Deputy Medical Director at Kingdom Hospital.
