Dr. Abdul Karim bin Tawfiq bin Abdul Wahab Al Yafi
He was born in the city of Homs, Syria in 1919. He studied medicine at the Syrian University in 1936. Dr. Abdul Karim was then seconded to study at the Sorbonne University in Paris, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences in 1940. Then he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Arts in 1941 and a degree in Psychology in 1942. In 1943 he obtained a degree in Philosophy and then a PhD in Philosophy in 1945.
He returned to Syria in 1945 and was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Sociology in 1947.
He attained the rank of Professor with a Chair in Sociology at the Syrian University in 1961. He has several books, the most important of which are: Badaa’ al-Hikma, The Arab Society, The Advancement of Science, Abu Tammam’s Dialectic, Intellectual Milestones in the History of Arab-Islamic Civilization and many other publications (see the reference page).
